junk science!
February 26, 2009
i spent last week handing business in new york city. on the a-list was a meet-up with snafu and baje one — the park slope, brooklyn kids also known as junk science.
i shot a video for their song ‘roads’ around 2004 or 2005 — it’s one of my favorite videos ever — and we’d kept in touch ever since. they’re genuinely talented artists, doing things for themselves and kicking out consistently dope music in their own style. in an era when hip hop is dead, junk science and their crew nuclear family (shout out to cool calm pete) are definitely alive and well, making rap records that sound like 1987 was happening in 1993 if 1993 was in 2033.
as things often go, they dropped a really intense new single called ‘fire drill’ on me. needless to say, the next morning, i was on the F train, heading to brooklyn to come up with AND shoot a music video with them, using mike’s brother vito’s digital SLR.
no label, no management, no production company, producer, DP, or craft service (well, they DID buy me a souvlaki and baje makes the best italian coffee ever) but we managed to do something kind of special:
expect to see this gem out on the interwebs sometime really soon.
in the meantime, more goodness from the nukfam crew at http://radiobelly.com/
